     Scuba diving is considered by most people to be an extreme adventure.  For those who have a keen interest in exploring the underwater world, then scuba diving is certainly something that you may wish to consider.  Scuba diving adventures can be found around the world, with some of the best scuba diving sights in the Red Sea, around the islands of Hawaii, and around the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.  There are also many scuba diving locations around the continental United States that divers could investigate, and we will list some of those favorite spots later in this article.

First, let’s learn a little more about the sport of scuba diving.  SCUBA is an acronym that stands for Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.  Basically, it is the act of having the proper equipment and training to be able to breathe underwater for an extended amount of time, for the purpose of exploration and adventure.

Scuba diving can open up an underwater world for people, especially those that are interested in learning about various sea life and oceanic environments.  It provides for discoveries that have not been seen by many people, which is especially interesting for scientists, photographers, treasure seekers, or the adventurous person.

     In order to acquire the advanced skills that are needed for scuba diving, it is important for you to collect the appropriate equipment and learn the techniques that are needed in order to keep you safe and confident.  Many colleges offer scuba diving courses, as well as privately owned scuba diving companies around the country, also.  Although scuba diving can be amazing, challenging, and unforgettable, it is an activity that has some risks; therefore, adequate training is highly suggested, as well as the knowledge that you should not scuba dive alone.

-Key Largo, Florida:  Often referred to as the “Diving Capital of the World”, Key Largo is a favorite among repeat divers, as well as beginners.  This area offers many unique diving opportunities, and there are several favorite spots from which to choose from, within the area.  There are also several local dive centers that offer diving instruction, equipment, and diving excursions, too.

-Monterey Bay, California:  People from all over come to Monterey Bay to scuba dive.  This area offers relatively safe scuba conditions, with clear water and good visibility.  Divers can explore an underwater canyon, a kelp forest, and a variety of interesting marine animals in this area.  Several dive shops are located in Monterey Bay and they offer everything needed for the novice diver to the expert diver.

-Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, Galveston, Texas:  Diving in this section of the Gulf of Mexico offers unique opportunities for any scuba diver.  There are beautiful coral reefs to explore, as well as a vast array of marine life.

-Morehead City, North Carolina:  This scuba diving favorite is at the tip of what is referred to as the “Graveyard of the Atlantic”.  With a variety of shipwrecks to explore, scuba divers have many adventures to explore in this area.
